Jelqing vs. Penis Pumps: Which One Gets Better Results?

by Scott Hanson | Last Updated: May 1, 2021

To preface this article, I want to say that it is unfortunate that so many men aren’t confident in themselves when it comes to their penis size.

Really, it’s more about how you use it than how big it is, and you don’t have to have a particularly big penis to be a satisfying partner in bed.

With that being said, I understand that it can be hard to feel self-confident if you feel like your penis is a bit small.

If you’ve been researching possible ways to increase the size of your penis, you may have already heard of both jelqing and penis pumps before.

The question is, do either of these methods actually work, and if so, which one of them is more viable for actually increasing the size of your penis? We’ll be taking a look at both jelqing and penis pumps in order to answer these questions.

But here is a quick answer if you’re in a hurry. Jelqing maxes out gains around 0.5 inches while penis pumps max out growth around 1.5 inches. I personally suggest doing both in conjunction and have used these methods to gain just under 1 inch.

Jelqing: What You Need to Know

If you’re not already familiar with it, jelqing is a series of exercises intended to stretch your penis out. You essentially massage your penis, creating micro-tears in your penis’s tissues that purportedly make your penis bigger when they heal.

Jelqing enthusiasts claim that jelqing regularly can increase both the length and girth of your penis and also help you maintain an erection for longer. However, much of the evidence supporting these claims is anecdotal and should be taken with a grain of salt.

However, jelqing is generally regarded to be pretty safe (as long as you don’t do it too often or too aggressively). If you want to know how to properly jelq, here’s what you have to do:

  1. Make an “OK” sign with your thumb and index finger.
  2. Grip the base of your penis with your “OK” sign.
  3. Make your “OK” sign smaller until you feel some pressure on your penis shaft.
  4. Move your hand slowly up along your penis shaft until you reach the tip.
  5. When you reach the tip, loosen your grip and slide your hand back to the base of your shaft.
  6. Repeat these steps for 20 minutes, once a day.

When jelqing, it’s often a good idea to use lube, so as to avoid chafing your penis. In addition, you should try not to let yourself get fully hard when jelqing. Be sure to stop jelqing immediately if you find that it’s causing you pain.

Penis Pumps: What You Need to Know

A penis pump consists of a chamber with a hand pump on one end and an opening for your penis on the other.

By inserting your penis into the chamber and removing all of the air inside it with the pump, you create a vacuum in the chamber that can help you draw more blood into your penis.

Doing so will make your penis become erect, and it may even swell up beyond its normal size. In general, most people use penis pumps as a means of treating erectile dysfunction, since it makes it significantly easier for your penis to draw blood into itself.

However, there’s not much evidence to suggest that using a penis pump will actually make your penis increase in size. A study performed in 2006 concluded that using a penis pump regularly didn’t cause any kind of significant increase in the average penis size of the study’s participants.

On the other hand, about a third of the men who took part in the study did report that they felt more confident and self-satisfied after regularly using a penis pump, so it may be worth it for you to try using one regardless.

Keep in mind that if you plan on using a penis pump, you should look for one that is FDA-approved. Penis pumps that aren’t built to property safety standards can put too much pressure on the blood vessels in your penis, causing them to burst.

Other Devices You Can Try

Aside from penis pumps, there are other devices you can dry if you want to increase your penis size or achieve a stronger erection. These include penoscrotal rings and penile traction devices.

A penoscrotal ring fits around the base of your penis and works by restricting the flow of blood within your penis. This causes your penis to accumulate more blood, making it harder than it would normally be capable of being.

A penile traction device literally stretches your penis out. The theory here is that by consistently stretching your penis, you can increase its length.

Penile traction devices are usually used to treat Peyronie’s disease (a condition where the penis appears significantly crooked when erect), but some research suggests that they may be able to increase your penis size by a relatively small amount.

Final Thoughts

In truth, there’s really not that much concrete evidence to suggest that either jelqing or using a penis pump can increase your penis size by any significant margin.

However, that’s not to say that neither of these techniques is entirely useless. At the very least, there’s a decent amount of anecdotal evidence to suggest that jelqing and using a penis pump can be somewhat effective at making your penis bigger, at least temporarily.

Plus, as long as you perform them properly, both of these techniques are fairly safe. If you’re experimenting with ways to make your penis bigger, I’d suggest trying out both techniques in conjunction with each other.

If I had to pick between one or the other, however, I might lean more towards using a penis pump.

While it’s questionable how effective a penis pump will be at actually increasing your penis size, the fact that a penis pump can help you achieve a stronger erection more easily means that it’s ultimately a more practical device to use.
